The Tuesday News Blip

  • Tour de France: Cadel Evans leads from Australia. Way to go getting the "down under" guys showing up for a change from all the Italian, French, and European spin vets.

  • Latest iPhone App: via iPhone's amazing (and free) AOL Radio App images.jpeg, I've been dialing into KFWB. While they may not be the largest radio station out there, for local SoCal news, they present a very solid rap and have their act together in covering local events. I encourage you to check them out.

  • smileyface-small.jpgJoke of the Day: This poor bloke has seen E.T. just one too many times.
The most hilarious article of his "eloquent" and "comprehensive" coverage of extra-terrestrials was this sound bite: "You know...they could made of water. I don't even know." I almost did a spit-take drinking my morning tea hearing that one. No more slime, goo, nor multiple heads -- aliens are now "made of water". The nerd comment of the day would be that "Humans -- being, like the Earth itself, about 70% water --are all alien, then! "They're out there, man. They got them little graves and stuff."

  • Politics:
    • The New Yorker released an atrocious satire of Obama. With all the Obama and Osama jokes running around, this illustration

certainly was over-the-top, below-the-belt, and an unmethodological sock to the gut.

    • Additionally, California may pass a bill (I'll post the link when I find it) that condemns a family if one of their children becomes associated with a gang. Great move, I think. Thwarting and controlling gang affiliation from place where it most likely starts, the homefront.

  • Journal Notes: One thing I've been witnessing in my recent posts is the fusion of past academic practices into the writing. In other words, in third grade we had to bring in a weekly news blurb for a "News station simulation". Someone would cover sports, another local, another world, etc. Sure, when she wasn't baking cinnamon rolls, my third grade teacher utterly horrified me, but the news coverage sound bites still stands as a solid idea today!

  • Cup 'o Tea: I think one indication of success is the utilization of past gimmicks, tricks, protocols, and endeavors to fuel and structure your discovery and coverage of the present.
